Critical thinking:
  • Is there a clearly stated thesis? If yes, what is it?
  • Does the essay show insight and in-depth understanding of issues?
  • What is the evidence provided to support the main claim?
Rhetorical Sophistication
  • Does the writer communicate purpose with sophistication?
  • Does the essay address the assignment?
  • Is the title appealing? Why or why not?
  • What parts need more explanation or are not clear to you?
Organization:
  • Is there paragraph structure that consistently and effectively supports the content?
  • Is the essay clearly and logically structured with effective transitions?
Use of language:
  • Is the writing clear, effective and engaging?
  • Do errors in language affect the writer’s communicative purpose?
MLA format:
  • Is the paper presented in the correct format?

Edit the paper you are peer reviewing and add notes directly (use a different color to indicate your changes)

General Revision Ideas

Theme-- a message (about life, society, or human nature). “Themes often explore timesless and universal ideas and are almost always implied rather than stated explicitly.” (wikipedia).

Examples of a general theme could be “loss of innocence” or “self-revelation”

Does the play preach? Or reveal?


MLA format-- in text citations and Works Cited; Title and personal information
